The XJ sedan turned 50 this year and to celebrate the feat, Jaguar India launched a special edition of the iconic sedan, the XJ50. The XJ sits at the epitome of the luxury sedan genre for Jaguar globally. The car is available with a long wheelbase version powered with a 3.0 litre diesel engine that develops 302bhp at 4000rpm of maximum power and a peak torque of 689Nm at 1800rpm. The engine comes mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. The car can sprint from 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds while the top speed is limited to 250kmph.
Updates on the exterior for the XJ50 include Autobiography-style front and rear bumpers. These mark the anniversary edition out alongside purposeful new 48.2 cm (19) wheels, chrome radiator grille with chrome surround and unique badging to the rear and side vents, while the striking colour palette includes Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.
Inside, the luxurious cabin features soft-grain diamond-quilted seats with an embossed leaper on the headrests and an XJ50 logo on the centre armrest. Unique intaglio branding and XJ50-badged illuminated tread plates also differentiate the anniversary edition, alongside anodized gearshift paddles and bright metal pedals.
The XJ50 gets Adaptive Dynamics continually monitors the car up to 500 times a second, varying the damping to suit the conditions. These continual adjustments help keep XJ to enhance produce a flat and stable ride, improving control without loss of ride comfort. The car is offered with All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), which is a low-speed cruise control, operating between 3.6 km/h and 30 km/h. It helps XJ to cope with low traction situations whatever the weather and allows drivers to concentrate on steering the vehicle. The system also has a pull-away function allowing XJ to move away from rest on slippery surfaces, as well as a hill descent function that controls vehicle speed on steeper inclines.
