Tata Motors launched there JTP versions of the Tiago and Tigor today which is a result of the partnership between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives Pvt. Ltd. which happened in March 2017. A 50 by 50 partnership joint venture between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives Pvt. Ltd. was launched to develop special performance vehicles based on the new generation products from Tata Motors. Both the models under the JTP badge were first revealed by Tata Motors during the 2018 Auto Expo.
The Tiago and Tigor have both received a turbocharger along with a few aesthetic updates to make them look the purpose. Both the sedan and the hatchback will be priced approximately at Rs 1.2 lakh premium over their XZ variant (topmost variant), which means the Tiago JTP will cost about Rs 6.4 lakh, and the Tigor JTP will cost about Rs 7.2 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India).
The Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are targeted toward a enthusiastic people who are interested in more performance, sporty looks and improved driving dynamics from the cars over the standard ones. Speaking of design elements, the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP cars arrive with a large trapezoidal lower grill, dual projector headlamps with chrome rings, 15-inch diamond cut dual tone wider 6.5J alloy wheels, sporty side skirts for a dynamic profile, contrast coloured outside mirrors, dual tone exterior with glossy black roof & rear spoiler along with a bold JTP badge on front grill and fender vents at the rear.
The interior is kept sporty too. Both the cars get all-black interiors with red accents on AC vents, leather-wrapped steering with contrast red stitching, seat fabric with red hexagonal pattern and red double stitching on the seats and gear knob that act as a unique differentiator for the JTP models over the standard ones. The performance oriented versions also get aluminium pedal extensions. Tata Motors have also equipped both cars with its ConnectNext system by Harman which is paired with 8 speakers and with an app suite and voice command recognition.
It’s the new powerful heart under the hood of both the cars that makes them special. Both the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP are powered by the 1.2L turbocharged Revotron petrol engine which delivers 114PS of maximum power and 150Nm of peak torque. Both the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP get performance oriented intake and exhaust systems as well. Tata claims that the Tiago JTP will do 0-100kph in 9.95 seconds while the Tigor JTP will take 10.38 seconds. Both cars have a 5-speed manual transmission which also gets multi drive modes – Sport and City, targeted for performance and efficiency respectively.
The suspension on both the cars are quoted to be retuned for better ride control. The ride height too has been reduced while the wider profile tyres are intended to provide better grip on the road. Both the cars come equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control as standard. These cars are going neck to neck with the Volkswagen Polo GT and the Maruti Baleno RS in this category. But, unlike the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP, both of these do not carry an affordable price tag. So it seems that the JTP twins will be India’s first performance-oriented cars for those with a keen eye on pricetag.
