In the already flooded SUV Indian Market, CR-V has garnered a special spot because of its premium and futuristic appearance. More than that, it’s the ever executive appeal that the car has managed to maintain among the people. Honda has now introduced the fifth generation CR-V and it makes a grand comeback with lots of offerings in the full size SUV segment. Thought the previous version of the CR-V is still under production, the fifth generation is supposed to raise the stakes with a new 7-seater option and a diesel engine variant for the first time in the CR-V’s history.
The car is longer to accommodate the extra row of seats, wider and taller as well. Honda’s plans to enter Indian market with a big SUV is clearly evident. The new CR-V comes with a new grille with chromes inserts all along the place (which actually looks glassy than cheap) and an all LED lighting system. The rear gets angular LED tail lamps, which look smart, along with a new bumper and boot design as well. It also comes with various accessories such as roof rack box, door visors, rear panel lining cover, hood edge deflector, all-season floor mats, high wall,cargo cover and cargo net.
Proximity key entry system with push button start and remote engine starter are offered as standard. The dual-zone automatic climate control comes with air-filtration system which provides a cabin ambience that is unaffected by the surrounding weather.
The CR-V is offered with a 7-inch touchscreen display audio system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The Honda satellite-linked navigation system which comes with bilingual voice recognition so your eyes stay on the road while operating the system. It’s also equipped with lots of active and passive safety features like controlled braking, tyre pressure monitoring system(TPMS), vehicle stability assist (VSA) with traction control, hill start assist, auto high beam, HondaLink Assist automatic emergency response system, advanced compatibility engineering (ACE) body structure and six standard airbags.
Under the hood of the new CR-V is the new 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that churns 120bhp of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque mated with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The 2WD is claimed to return 19.5kmpl while the AWD variant tips at 18.3kmpl. The car also gets the standard 2.0-litre petrol motor that develops 154bhp of maximum power and 192Nm of peak torque.The claimed fuel efficiency for the petrol CR-V is 14.4kmpl. The diesel is offered with all-wheel-drive as an option, while the petrol will only get a front wheel drive version as standard.
The new Honda CR-V has to hold its ground against tough rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan. Honda Motors India has priced the new CR-V at RS. 28.15 lakh. The diesel 2WD model is priced at RS. 30.65 lakh while the fully loaded top-spec diesel variant costs Rs 32.75 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
